- `bright cyan`Draft Help

- `bright cyan`The Draft:
- The Draft is the one of the most important parts of any teams
- existence. The players you draft will be the building blocks
- from which you will make your Franchise. In the Unregistered
- version it is even more important, because there is no way to
- release players OR get new ones.
-
- The draft is composed of four rounds. In the first round, you
- will be given a number of choices. From those choices, you may
- pick one player. This player is your "Franchise" player. He
- will likely be the best player you have. It doesn't really matter
- what position he plays, your choice will set the stage for your
- teams future picks.
-
- The second round gives you three picks. These players will most
- likely be very good, and should compose most of what will be
- your starting lineup.
-
- At least one pick of the four given to you in the third round,
- will be a starter. This round is composed of players with good
- to fair skills. Most of these draft choices will be reserve
- players. They will see a good bit of playing time, probably
- won't start.
-
- Finally, the last round allows you eight picks. Half of your
- team is taken here, and these are the lesser skilled players
- in the league.
-
- `bright cyan`Drafting Strategy:
- It is an excellent idea to fill each position in the starting
- lineup as soon as possible. Ultimately, your first five
- picks should play the five starting positions, but there will
- be exceptions. Remember, it's just as important to get good
- starters as it is to get great players.
-
- The draft actually reflects real life. Certain positions
- are more difficult to fill (find good players for) than others.
-
- `bright cyan`Skill:
- The higher the skill number, the better a player is at that
- attribute. This also applies to injury, fatigue, and fouls.
- The higher the number, the less likely a player will be injured,
- fatigued, or get called for fouls.
-
- `bright cyan`Abbreviations:
-
- `bright cyan`NUM:
- This is the player number. It is the way you reference a
- player, either to view, or draft.
-
- `bright cyan`NAME:
- This is the players first initial and last name. Some
- people sound like better basketball players, but don't
- let a name fool you. It's all in the skills.
-
- `bright cyan`POS:
- This represents a players position. There are three
- basic positions in basketball, guard, center and forward.
- There are seven position designations in franchise
- basketball.
- `bright red`PG: `white`Point guard. Traditionally short and
- excellent ball handlers. They do possess
- some ability to score but are largely
- responsible for running the offense. Look
- for Point Guards to have mediocre scoring
- numbers but many assists.
- `bright red`SG: `white`Shooting Guard. This is the second
- of two guards. Their responsibility is
- scoring. Typically a bit taller than a
- point guard, a shooting guard can dribble
- but would prefer to be in a shooting situation.
- `bright red`PF:`white` This is the Power Forward. They are
- big, muscular, mean folks that often play within
- 10 feet of the basket. They rebound well,
- shoot typically within 10 feet and often get
- the big time dunks.
- `bright red`SF: `white`The Small Forward isn't as tall as the
- Power Forward, however, has a better shooting
- range. Small Forwards are even known to
- hoist up 3 point shots or act as a third
- guard. In addition, they can rebound fairly
- well. Small Forwards are the closest thing
- to a utility player.
- `bright red`C: `white`These are the monsters of the floor,
- the Center. Often over seven feet tall, the center
- stays within close proximity of the hoop,
- fetching rebounds, shooting from close range
- and dunking on occasion.
- `bright red`G: `white`In Franchise Basketball, this is a
- generic guard. Someone able to play either the PG or
- the SG position. Often, however, these
- players will not be as skillful in one area
- they'll be a better "package". A "G" might
- be a better substitute than starter.
- `bright red`F: `white`Same as the "G" only for the forwards.
- This player can do both good, neither great...
- usually.
-
- In Franchise Basketball, each team must have 2 Guards, 2 Forwards
- and a Center in the starting lineup, otherwise the games will be
- forfeited. In addition, you may not have 2 PG, 2 SG, 2 PF or 2 SF
- start the game, you may have 2 G and/or 2 F.
-
- `bright cyan`OF:
- The Offensive skill of the player (the higher the number the
- better). This encompasses all the offensive skills of a player,
- passing, dribbling, hands, etc. A low offensive rated player
- will fall prey to turning the ball over, double dribbles, bad
- passes. A good player will avoid these mishaps.
-
- `bright cyan`DE:
- The Defensive skill of a player is their ability to cause
- offensive mishaps, steal the ball, intercept passes, block
- shots. A good defensive team is a well rounded team and
- should not be blown out of too many games.
-
- `bright cyan`SH:
- This is the players shooting skill. It has been grouped
- sperate from offense, because you don't have to be a
- great offensive player to shoot the lights out. Good shooters
- are raw scoring machines. They have the ability to heat it
- up in a hurry. This combined with an excellent offensive
- skill makes a player a dangerous weapon.
-
- `bright cyan`RB:
- This is the players rebounding skill. This is most important
- for Center's and Forward's, since they are the one's near
- the basket. Rebounding can often be the key to being a
- successful franchise.
-
- `bright cyan`3P:
- Three Point Shooting is important for guards. They are the
- players who will hoist 'em up. This replaces the shooting
- skill when the player is beyond the 3 point arch. Center's
- and Forward's won't be tremendously good at these.
-
- `bright cyan`FA:
- Finally, fatigue. Fatigue plays a big role in many games.
- When your players are tired out, they don't perform as well,
- their abilities begin to slip and you are forced to go to
- your bench. Often the primary offensive setup you pick will
- have an effect on your players fatigue.
-
- `bright cyan`Age:
- It is always a good idea to look for excellent young talent,
- especially if you are playing in a Perpetual Season. Good
- younger players have a better chance to continue playing for
- a long time, while older players may retire. It is a good
- idea to get a few players from each age group.
-
- `bright cyan`Scores:
- As we've mentioned, players with high scores are better, but
- how much better. What do the scores mean? This chart is a
- gauge as to the players skills (Remember: Normal people would
- not fall on the scale of 1 - 20 they would be in the 0 - 1
- range... this scale is a measurement of Professional Basketball
- Players, not people.)
